Today is Good Friday! Good Friday is the remembrance day of the death of the Christ. Why is it called “good”? The majesty of Christ is understood by his followers in his part of the tri-union with God the Father and Spirit. Jesus exhibits that he is God during his earthly ministry by miracles (and subtext😉). Of course, this is a matter of faith. Christian belief depends on the understanding that Sin is a present force in the world. Christian texts explain that the triune God “made Him [the Christ] who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21). The beauty and majesty of God acting in love on behalf of people unable to overcome selfishness is the inspiration of Christian faith. Today is good because it is an exchange of reward for the Christ follower. He, in his selflessness, receives death; I, in spite of a selfish nature, receive eternal life. It is the nature of God to give compassion, mercy, kindness, and love – strange concepts in the world.
